Pyrazinamide Drug Info

Pyrazinamide Drug Uses: Pyrazinamide is used in the treatment of tuberculosis.

How to Use Pyrazinamide: Take Pyrazinamide by mouth on an empty stomach (one hour before or two hours after meals) with a full glass of water as directed. Take all this medication as prescribed. Do not skip doses or stop taking this without your doctor's approval. Stopping therapy too soon may result in ineffective treatment. For best results, take this medication at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day and night to keep your blood level constant. Antacids may reduce the absorption of rifampin. Take this drug at least one hour before taking any antacids.

Pyrazinamide Precautions: Pyrazinamide has caused severe, even fatal, liver problems (e.g., hepatitis). Liver problems increase with age and with daily use of alcohol. Hepatitis can develop with use of this drug at any time during treatment. Stop using this medication and notify your doctor immediately if you develop unusual fatigue, weakness, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, dark urine, yellowing of the eyes or skin, or stomach or abdominal pain. Your doctor may decide to slowly restart isoniazid after these symptoms disappear and lab tests return to normal. People with active (acute) liver problems should not use this medication for preventative treatment until after the liver problems have stopped. Your doctor will monitor your liver function tests at least every month to discuss your progress. Tell your doctor if you have: liver disease, kidney disease, gout, diabetes, blood disorders, allergies (especially drug allergies). Alcohol can reduce the effectiveness of this medication and increase side effects. Limit alcohol consumption while using this medication. Use caution operating machinery or participating in activities requiring alertness if this medication makes you feel drowsy or dizzy. This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy or while breast-feeding. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

Pyrazinamide Drug Interactions: Pyrazinamide is not recommended for use with: delavirdine. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more details. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you may use (both prescription and nonprescription), especially of: other MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine procarbazine, selegiline, isocarboxazid, tranylcypromine), adrenaline-like drugs (e.g., sympathomimetics such as ephedra, pseudoephedrine, phenylpropanolamine), serotonin-type drugs (including SSRI antidepressants and triptans such as sumatriptan), warfarin, oral medicines for diabetes, azole antifungals (e.g., itraconazole, ketoconazole), theophylline, halothane, verapamil, certain protease inhibitors (e.g., nelfinavir), corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone), disopyramide, beta-blockers (e.g., metoprolol), isoniazid, digitoxin, quinidine, mexiletine, phenytoin, cyclosporine, zidovudine, live vaccines. In very rare cases, a drug contained in this combination medication (isoniazid - INH) may cause flushing of the skin or symptoms of high blood pressure such as unusually fast or slow heartbeat, vomiting, sweating, headache, chest pain, sudden vision changes, one-sided weakness or slurred speech. Tell your doctor immediately should these symptoms occur. If these reactions do occur, it is important that you follow special dietary restrictions in order to limit the amount of tyramine and histamine in your diet while you are taking this medicine. Foods and beverages high in tyramine should be avoided (see list below). Excessive amounts of coffee, chocolate, sour cream, or avocados may also produce symptoms of high blood pressure in very rare cases. High tyramine content foods include: aged cheeses (cheddar, camembert, emmenthaler, brie, stilton blue, gruyere, gouda, brick, bleu, roquefort, boursault, parmesan, romano, provolone, liederdranz, colby, edam), aged/dried/fermented/salted/smoked/pickled/processed meats and fish (includes bacon, summer sausage, liverwurst, hot dogs, corned beef, pepperoni, salami, bologna, ham, mortadella, pickled or dried herring), banana peel, beef and chicken liver (stored, not fresh), bouillon cubes, commercial gravies, concentrated yeast extracts (marmite), fava beans, Italian green beans, broad beans, fermented bean curd, homemade yeast-leavened bread, kim chee (Korean fermented cabbage), miso, orange pulp, overripe or spoiled fruits, packaged soups, red wine, sauerkraut, sherry, snow pea pods, sourdough bread, soy sauce, soya bean, soya bean paste, tap beer and ale, vermouth. Also report drugs which cause drowsiness such as: sedatives, tranquilizers, psychiatric medicines, anti-seizure or anti-anxiety drugs, narcotic pain relievers, certain antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine). Thanks for being so cooperative in getting this done. We will use your service again when my mom's Pyrazinamide runs out.
Thanks again. -Troy

Although I, as an attorney, was professionally skeptical about the claims made regarding the effectiveness of Pyrazinamide, all claims were well-deserved. Please add my name to the growing list of completely satisfied customers. (As a matter of fact, I would like to be one of your "unsolicited" ambassadors.)
Thanks for "saving my skin"!
Sincerely,

What are the differences between Pyrazinamide brand-name drugs and Pyrazinamide generic drugs?
You probably know that pharmaceutical companies carry out extensive research and clinical testing to win approval from the Food and Drug Administration for new drugs. The new drug is then protected by patent for at least 10 years. Hence, a brand-name drug. When the patent expires another drug company can "copy the recipe" for the brand drug. This "copy" is called a generic drug. The FDA requires that generic Pyrazinamide have the same active chemical composition, be dispensed in the same dosage form such as a tablet or capsule and be taken in the same dosage as the brand-name drug.

Highlights

Different definition / meanings for the word "drug resistance":
Occurs when the virus a person is infected with is no longer sensitive to the medications taken. Even when the viral load is undetectable, a small amount of virus is still replicating. The ‘copies’ (of the replicating viruses) that survive are those that the drug cannot suppress. The surviving copies have genes that have mutated to elude capture by the drug. Sooner or later, this mutated virus reaches a critical mass and ‘breaks through’

Different definition / meanings for the word "Anxiety":
A feeling of apprehension, worry, uneasiness or dread. Excess anxiety interferes with a child's ability to function normally. This is common in children who have been abused and neglected. Treatment can include medication and/or therapy. Almost all recently placed adoptive children will have some degree of anxiety (so will the parents!).

Different definition / meanings for the word pharmacy:
Osmotic strength largely determines the physiologic acceptability of many solutions used for therapeutic and nutritional purposes. Direct therapeutic effects of osmotic action include intravenous mannitol, used to draw water away from the brain in cerebral oedema, and lactulose, a semi-synthetic disaccharide used as a laxative. The high osmolality of solutions used in parenteral nutrition necessitates their infusion into a large central vein.

Prozac
Fluoxetine is used to treat depression, bulimia (an eating disorder), obsessive compulsive disorders (OCD), and severe symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (premenstrual dysphoric disorder-PMDD). This medication works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural chemicals in the brain.

Flonase
This is a nasal corticosteroid that works directly on nasal tissue to reduce swelling and inflammation. The medication is used to treat itching, runny nose, postnasal drip, nasal congestion and sneezing in people with a history of rhinitis.

Synalar
Synalar (Fluocinolone) is used to treat the itching, redness, dryness, crusting, scaling, inflammation, and discomfort of various skin conditions.
